Ferrari SP38 - The F40's spiritual successor

Ferrari is no stranger to pulling off designs that capture the minds of so many car enthusiasts young and old. The SP38 is no acceptation to that brief. Admittedly, the announcement of the new SP38 caught the automotive world with their pants down as to be rather frank with you, it was completely out of the blue. There was no inclination there would be anything new from Ferrari so soon, let alone a one off creation inspired by the legendary F40.

Designed by the Ferrari Design Centre, the SP38 is based on the tried and tested chassis and running gear of the fantastic 488 GTB mixed in with inspiration from the eighties & nineties icon that is the F40. It comes with brand new body work and a cool three coat metallic paint which is of course, red.

Although compared to the 488 the SP38 looks a tad more rear end concentrated with that sweeping edge sculpted over the rear wheels and the straight-cut look of the nose. Fun fact, the headlights were designed to be as thin as possible, with the daytime running lights moved to add a bit more character and use to the bumper lip! The styling continues with the engine cover, which removes the rear glass and is treated with carbon fibre instead. Three horizontal slats across the engine cover are to help disperse engine heat, and the smooth integration of a substantial rear spoiler is a hint at the famous rear wing of the F40.

All in all the Ferrari SP38 certainly looks the part! Even if it is the lovechild of a 488 and F40 after a bit of an unplanned night out in stoke... What do you think of Ferrari's latest creation? Let us know below!
